Hey Reader You Beginning Aim

Hey Reader You Beginning Aim

By Joe Petrulionis

(At a Rocky Ruin by a River Outside Hilla)

A sign I passed on the east-west highway,

--signifying nothing much to speak of--

had been erected some time ago and promptly neglected.

It offered, on both sides, most humbly, in some unintelligible oriental tongue,

directions, or limits, or a challenge, or worse--

declaring only “EREH DEIRUB GNINAEM.”

Just a barely utterable--if acoustic--jumble, yet

something in the script troubled for a moment, just for a second.

Then it vanished from my rear-view mirror, into the misty past.
